Scroll down to meet our primary practitioners, and for information on how and where to contact us. David E. Mathews, LCPDavid E. Mathews is a state licensed and American Board Certified prosthetist. He is a
1990 graduate of the University of Washington, with a Bachelor of Science Since graduation he has been employed full time as a prosthetist. Dave continues as the clinical director for a non-profit organization that provides modern prosthetic rehabilitation to amputees in developing countries, primarily Vietnam. Dave has trained approximately one hundred prosthetists here and abroad to use computer assisted techniques, and has served as an auxiliary faculty member at the University of Washington. Garth E. Shippen, LCOGarth is licensed
by the State of Washington in Orthotics and certified by the American
Board for Certification in Orthotics and Prosthetics. He is a 1985
graduate of University of Washington’s Prosthetic/Orthotic program and has
been practicing in the Greater Seattle area for the last twenty years in
both institutional and private practice settings. He is enthusiastic about
the opportunity to bring his skills as an Orthotist to the Whidey Island
community.
Garth joins Island P&O after spending the last eight years as a clinical Orthotist and guest lecturer at the University of Washington. He has amassed a tremendous variety of clinical expertise in all areas of orthotic applications, including Multiple Sclerosis, Spinal cord injuries, CVA’s (strokes), Cerebral Palsy, Spinal bifida, Diabetes, Post-Polio syndrome, trauma/sports injuries, and numerous other disorders that result in impairment of mobility. In addition to clinical, fabrication, and fitting responsibilities, he was also a guest lecturer within the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine Curriculum at the University of Washington. He has spoken on a regular basis to Rehab resident physicians, physical therapy students, and student in the prosthetic/orthotic curriculum about many topics relevant to the proper prescription and function of orthotic devices. We are pleased to have his level of knowledge, expertise, and practical experience as part of the Island team.
